One of my goals is to get better at this whole blog thing...using diligence, determination and alliteration. Things have been active here in Portland. We leave tomorrow for a two week mission trip to central OZ. I don't think we have ever taken on the task of driving 39 hours as a family. This trip will be one of many firsts:

• This is our first family mission trip. We will be doing some work at a dorm school in Alice Springs. You may recognize this place from your local Outback Steakhouse menu. Alice Springs is a community in Central Oz that has a large aboriginal population.


• We will also spend some time in the aboriginal communities (in the real outback of Australia) with some missionaries we support through GIA.


• Along the way we will be staying in Coober Pedy. Coober Pedy is know for its opal mines and heat! Our hotel is underground. Well, dug into a side of a mountain.


• We will get to see Ayers Rock (Uluru) and Kings Canyon (two beautiful landmarks).
